Here’s the big deal: We develop disciples of Jesus at The Sanctuary. Spiritual growth and restoration happens here. You’re invited, not just to attend, but to be a part of the story being written.
Because we believe the Bible, we know that Jesus promised the Holy Ghost and power to help us live this new life, and it’s happening! People are recieving the Holy Spirit just like in the book of Acts.
Because God has done such great things for us, we are passionate in worship and prayer too.
The Sanctuary of Eagle River was started on a living room couch with a small group Bible study in 1986. Soon they grew and met in the Chugiak Community Center, and then the building at 14121 Old Glenn was built by Roy Schreckhise.
In 2016 God burdened the Seagraves’ hearts for Eagle River.
After two months without a release in their burden, Derrick told Shannon, “maybe it’s us.”
In preparation, Pastor Seagraves prayed for a vision from God for the future of The Sanctuary. What was given was a mandate to plant 5 more local churches and create a mutually supportive network of ministry. So the Seagraves converted the old offices of the building into their home for the first year, and started ministering to the community in the snow of January 2017.
With a large vision there is a lot of room for others’ involvement and personal growth. Other ministers have noted a “missionary mindset” here.
It’s an exciting time, and we’re so glad to involve you!
We are developing a healthy church, that teaches the whole Bible, and experiences God’s promised power.
People are being restored, healed, and developed as disciples of Jesus and leaders.
Their impact will serve our region and expand the Kingdom of God.
Most importantly, you're always welcome at The Sanctuary Church. We're saving a seat for you. Wherever you're at in your faith, you'll always be welcome as part of the Hope family as we all walk together in obedience to Christ.

Shannon plays music, sings, teaches Sunday School and personal Bible studies, mentors other ladies, raises chickens, and operates an Airbnb. She likes to read historical fiction, laugh, and visit her friends for coffee. She has a BA in Music from IBC and sometimes teaches piano. She is a faithful blood donor to the children’s blood bank. Her favorite Alaskan activities are berry picking, dip-netting, and campfires.
Derrick has always encouraged others, envisioning what is possible. He’s creative and a problem solver who likes to read non-fiction and learn ways to improve. In the community he teaches Bible studies at Jitters and Sleepy Dog, delivers donations, and makes people feel welcome to the area. His BA in Biblical Theology from IBC followed higher education in Business Administration and Management; he has worked in oil, finance, and his own businesses. Derrick’s favorite Alaskan experiences are fishing big halibut in Homer, traveling to the rain forests of South East Alaska, experiencing village life in and around Bethel, and snow-machining Summit lakes. He plans to get a pilot’s license soon.
Together the Seagraves’ believe in the people of Alaska, and God’s love for us. There’s a glorious church being built here, and they are blessed to serve more and more.
Jesus commanded His church to teach people to be disciples, and He promised God’s power the Holy Ghost.
We’re all about that mission and promise. We exist to develop disciples of Jesus.
